2019 Year in Review

2019 Year in Review

Hello friends and Happy New Year! I haven’t been posting as frequently on this blog. I have been doing a lot of art, however. But between that and the holidays, I haven’t found the time to sit down and blog about the art I’ve been doing. So before I get caught up on all the paintings I’ve done to date, I decided to do a little look back at the previous year in art. Here is my 2019 year in review.

January

I began the year still displaced after Hurricane Michael. I couldn’t do very much in the limited space I had that wasn’t even mine. It was around this time, however, that I was contacted by an old friend who suggested that I give Twitch a try. So I was spending some spare time looking into all that.

Early in the month, I moved to a new temporary location. This place had a garage and an easel. So I decided to bring my stuff from home and do a painting or two. I only managed two paintings in the month of January.
The first painting of 2019 was
Meadow Walk and #2 was
Lazy River.

February

February was another slow month for painting. I was still living away but managed to complete two paintings.
Blue Hills
Knife Mountain

March

March began with me moved back into my home after a majority of the hurricane damage had been repaired. By this time I had made the decision to start streaming on Twitch. I was able to start my first stream in early March and the painting was
Alaskan Mountain. That was followed the very next day by
Mountain Waterfall. A week later, I did 3 paintings in 3 days beginning with
Northern Lights Pt 3. Then followed by
Shamrock Sunday and
Quick Lazy River. But the painting for March didn’t end there. Next one up,
Mystic River. I closed out March with
Mountain Ridge.
As you can see, March was a busy month of painting with a total of 7 paintings completed.

April

I slowed down slightly in April but April saw one of my proudest paintings completed.
Mountain Sunset.
Twin Peaks.
Bob Ross Meets Halo. Quite proud of this one!
Western Expanse.
Only 4 paintings done in the month of April but 4 paintings using newer techniques.

May

May saw me sort of level out at around one painting a week which is a good pace I’ve found. I began May with some western inspired landscapes due to a trip out west early in the month.
Desert Mountains.
Southwest Peace.
Calm Before the Storm.
Widget Beach.

May was also a month when I tried some colored pencil drawings. You can read about them here.
Colored Pencils.

June

June was a slow month in art due to an unexpected trip home to New England. I only managed two paintings.
Wilderness Island
White Sands

July

July picked up a bit with the art as I got back on more of a structured schedule for Twitch. After the first painting, I started a little segment called “Friday Night Paint and Chill.” I would do a painting then switch over and just chat or play a game. It only lasted a couple months but it was still quite fun. Kicked off July with a little patriotic theme.
Freedom Beach.
Bonita Bay X 2.
Tranquil Valley.
Portrait Attempt
I also started a painting but didn’t finish it until months later. Here’s the work in progress. I haven’t gotten around to blogging about it.

July had a bit of everything. Fireworks, mountains, seascape, and even a portrait.

August

August was a slow month in painting. Mainly because I had a minor medical procedure during the month. This threw off my more structured schedule. But I got some good ones done though.
Deep Forest Meadow
Hint of Autumn
Secluded Falls
While I was away getting the procedure done, I brought some water color painting supplies with me and tried 3 simple landscapes.
While August wasn’t very productive, I think I made up for it with some quality.

September

I’m not sure what happened in September. I only managed to do two paintings the entire month. I’m not sure but I think there was some work being done to the room where I stream and paint. I can’t really remember. Here are the two I did in September.
Volcanic Falls
Pastel Seas
The last quarter of the year is when things really kicked off.

October

October began with a bang. That’s when things started to pick up as far as art tempo. Kicked off the month with my second Halo painting.
Happy Halo
Autumn Stream
Autumn Reflection
Then I even did a series of abstract paintings.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t do something for Halloween in the month of October. I didn’t do anything spooky but I did paint a Bob Ross Pumpkin. The abstract paintings are what kicked off some further creativity for me and you’ll see the products of that in the next month.

November

As I went to start the November section of this post, I realized I hadn’t posted on the site for over a month. Of course holiday season gets you busy and that’s probably why. I was also doing a lot of artsy stuff. So there is one website post to link to for this month and the rest will be Instagram posts.
November kicked off with my first multi-session painting.
Autumn Covered Bridge
I started a painting back in July and went back to it in November. The result was
Moose Lake
November also produced my first plein air painting. Now there’s a painting I have to write about.
I also stepped out again and attempted a portrait painting.

Those were the only paintings I did in November. Like my abstract series, I started a different series of paintings. I started doing paintings on mini canvases of sizes from 4 x 4s to 2 x 2s. There are too many to individually link so check out my Instagram to see them all.

I did something else a bit different in November. When I did the plein air session, we were given a little goody bag. It contained a few minor art supplies like a graphite pencil and sharpeners. A few weeks later, I had a lot of time to kill and decided to try to draw an old black and white photo my dad sent me. I was quite pleased with how it turned out! Black & white drawing.

November was one of my busiest months in art!

December

In December, I only did a couple of traditional canvas paintings. I started out painting mini winter scenes on little log cookies and selling them as ornaments on Facebook and Etsy. They were really popular! Check out my Instagram to see them all. I also did some paintings on other surfaces.

Black & white commission.
ABM Beach.

Wooden disc painting 1.
Wooden disc painting 2.
Wooden disc painting 3.
Wooden tray painting.
Wooden disc painting 4.

That’s it! That’s my art year! This post took waaaaaayyyy too long. I sat on this forever! So lets recap this year in review.
39 Landscape paintings. 3 of those were acrylic.
28 mini paintings.
2 portrait paintings.
3 colored pencil drawings.
2 pencil drawings.

Let’s see what 2020 will bring in the world of art!
