Mountain Waterfall is painting #58 and the 2nd painting I streamed live on Twitch. Following Bob Ross, I create a tiny waterfall tucked beside a glassy lake, while surrounded by snowy majestic peaks and distant evergreens. I had only planned one painting for that weekend but I had so much fun doing it live on Twitch that I figured why not? Especially because when I first started painting, I painted for 5 days straight. There was nothing wrong with painting two days in a row. I think I got used to doing one painting a month or even less frequently.

Inspiration

Since this was an impromptu stream, I decided to do another Bob Ross episode. I also decided to try something new at the same time. This was my first attempt at a waterfall scene. If you recall, whenever I follow along with Bob, it’s because I want to try a new feature or a new technique. Mountain waterfall has your classic Bob Ross elements plus the waterfall I wanted to try.

For this scene I followed along with S2E12 of The Joy of Painting.

Materials Required

Whether you want to continue on your journey after painting your first masterpiece from the Bob Ross Master Kit DVD or painting for the first time, here are the colors and equipment you will need for this painting. The kit includes everything you need to paint Mountain Waterfall in particular as well as many other spectacular Bob Ross masterpieces. Getting this kit will eliminate the anxiety of buying the right brushes made of the right materials or the right oil paints with correct firmness or pigment ratios. Everything you need is there and ready to go.

Difficulties and Tips

Since this is straight from a Bob Ross episode, I’m sure many people have attempted this one before. Here are a couple of tips to remember if you attempt it.

While it wasn’t all the difficult, the most challenging part was painting in the cliff sides with the knife. One thing I need to improve upon as an artist is my perspective. I think the left side came out great but the right side seems a bit off to me. You can avoid this by taking your time and maybe doing some practice strokes without any paint on the knife. Make sure you watch Bob and get that knife angle right.

Of course you can paint this scene any way you like but one small happy accident I made was that I put the alizarin crimson a bit too low in the sky so the mountain covered most of it up. Keep the blue up towards the top and sides and put the crimson more towards the center.

I’m quite pleased with how the waterfall turned out. A tip to make this a success is to be sure you have plenty of liquid white on the brush. You need that paint to flow. Do a couple practice strokes prior to applying the brush to the canvas.

One of my normal weaknesses, the foliage highlights, actually turned out rather well I must say. I think the key is to have plenty of paint on the brush, take your time, pick out your spots and gently touch the paint to the canvas. Touch the bottom of the brush first then gently roll the brush to the top.

Final Thoughts

This was another fun stream. I had amazing support once again and I think the painting turned out all right!

I made this Twitch video into another time lapse and uploaded to YouTube. Check it out.

Like I mentioned in my last post. I’m doing a lot more with my art now. I’m experimenting with different ways to photograph and edit where necessary. Streaming on Twitch, making time lapse videos. All sorts. If you want to keep up with it all check out all my social media pages listed at the top of the home page. Like, follow, and subscribe. Catch me live next time at Domkizzle on Twitch. This one is no longer available but browse my Art Store to see other work that can be yours. Be sure to follow me on all my social media sites

Happy painting!
