Beach Sunrise. Painting #38

Size: 12 x 18 canvas

Living on the Florida Gulf Coast, I see an abundance of sunrises and gorgeous sunsets over the water. No matter how many times I see them, they never get old. No better way to end a day of beach fishing than watching the sun set over the Gulf.

A lot of times when I follow a Bob Ross painting, it is to learn a different way to paint certain features. I’ve painted two seascapes before with a wave as the main feature. When you look at the sea, there’s not always a big wave crashing. Sometimes it’s calm and smooth or sometimes there are small waves laping up on the shoreline. I wanted to learn how to paint a normal seascape without any big waves crashing. And for that I followed Joy of Painting episode S5E6. In this episode, Bob brings in guest artist Audrey Golden.

I enjoyed painting this scene. Though the technique is not complicated, I learned a lot. Doing a seascape like this is not all that different from creating the rivers and lakes in a normal landscape. You just add some smaller details in the water.
This was also my first time using liquid black. It wasn’t working very well at first but then I learned that you have to stir it up so it will stick to the canvas. So if you ever use liquid black be sure to shake it well and stir it up good.
This scene looks great on a canvas this size. Like I said, I learned a lot from this one even though it’s not complicated. I wanted to learn this method to apply to another scene that I had been waiting to paint for a while which you will see in my next post.

I certainly enjoyed this paining and I hope you do too. Let me know what you think and if you like it, share with friends!

Happy painting!
