Emerald Wave. Painting #32
Emerald Wave
Date Painted: October 23, 2017
Size: 11 x 14 canvas
Emerald Wave is my 31st painting. It was the first painting I did after arriving in Florida. If you’ve been paying attention, I moved from England to Florida. Very different climate and scenery! The scenery where I lived in England was mostly forest and meadows. Where I live now is the Florida Panhandle, on the Gulf of Mexico. I see a lot of beach scenery.
I painted this about two and a half months after moving to Florida. It took so long to get painting again because I had to attend some training and then bought a new home as well as waiting for all my furniture and belonging to arrive from England. This one was inspired after I attended a work conference in Destin, Florida. I stayed at a hotel right on the beach and the water was gorgeous! After not painting for so long, I wanted to do something relatively simple to sort of get back into it. I also wanted to paint something from my surroundings.
For this one I loosley followed along with S5E9 of The Joy of Painting.

Equipment
This one was relatively simple. My main goal for this was the color or the water. If you’ve ever been to the emerald coast, you know its a very deep blue/green, or, well, emerald. It’s not quite as emerald as I’d have liked but I’m pleased overall. This is also my first seascape in a while. Here’s an idea of the color I was trying to go for.
I hope you enjoy this painting. Give this one a shot. It’s fun. Have a question? Comment below.
Happy Painting!
