Halo & Bob Ross Followup Meeting. Painting #83

Halo & Bob Ross Followup Meeting. Painting #83

Halo Splendor
Date Painted: October 5, 2019
Size: 16 x 20 canvas

Now here is a surreal landscape. Just imagine camping in the north woods in order to catch a glimpse of the Milky Way galaxy like you see in so many photos. While waiting for the sun to set fully, you fall asleep briefly then wake up to this in the sky! What would be your first thought?

I painted this for an art challenged hosted by fellow artist and streamer Critter Art. You can watch him on his Twitch Channel or check out his Instagram. Critter Art is an illustrator and character creator who does some fine work! He creates unique characters for children’s books. Pretty cool!

The prompt was “space”. Now I never do art challenges or art prompts because they are normally don’t fit my style. For this one, I figured there would be some way to fit space into one of my paintings since I have done galaxy backgrounds before. I had been meaning to follow up on my last Halo painting and came across some good inspiration during my search for some ideas for a space themed painting. I took a Halo picture I found on Google and adapted it to a Bob Ross style scene within.

This was another one of those paintings where I tried something new. I had scene the planet/moon technique done before and wanted to give it a try. This was the perfect scene to try it out. I don’t want to give too much away here but I will give you two hints on how to do it. Bowl and masking tape.

I really enjoy a painting when I have to break out my non standard Bob Ross Brushes. Makes me feel more creative. One of the challenges with this painting was creating depth in such a dark scene. Dark and light area contrasts help create more depth in a painting. When your background is set in a dark scene, it’s more difficult to create a lighter tonal value to put dark color onto. The easiest part of this painting was the sky and everything within it. It was also the most fun.

The original painting is not for sale at this time but I do have prints for sale in my Art Store.

I understand that not everyone has the budget or room for original artwork. That’s where prints come in handy. You can get a high quality reproduction of a piece for a fraction of the cost and convenient sizes to hang anywhere from your office to your man cave or she shed. If you see anything you like that you would consider buying but it’s not within your budget, reach out. I’m willing to see what I can do to fit your budget.

Hope you enjoyed this. I plan on doing more in this style in the future.

Happy painting!
