Secluded Falls. Painting #80

Can’t you just picture yourself at a place like this? Perhaps you’re walking off the beaten path of a hiking trail and you are rewarded by this incredible sight! So secluded, there’s no sign that anyone has been here. Almost like you’re walking in a dream. A fantastical view! Have you ever seen anything like this in real life?

Secluded Falls is painting #80. Streamed on Twitch and followed The Joy of Painting S19E6. I was inspired to do this particular one by Nic Hankins, a wonderful Ross Certified Instructor and overall artist. I’ve kind of wanted to try these types of paintings but never had the courage. But after seeing the one Nic did, I had to give it a shot. I figured it would look cool on stream as well.

I love how this turned out. I like everything about it. There is very little, if anything at all, that I would go back and do again. So pleased with this painting.

This painting is not actually hard to do. The biggest thing is to mix enough color in the right shade you want. Make sure you have enough even if you make too much. I’ll tell ya. Trying to mix to the exact shade you ran out of is a son of a gun.
A lot of this painting is foliage so it will make you work with the two inch brush. That can be quite the challenge. Bob uses it a lot so there is a lot of time for you to really watch closely how he applies the color. Another tip is to really, really pay attention to how Bob loads the brush. That will help you a lot. My brushes are pretty worn so I had to adapt by loading so much paint into my bristles and reloading constantly. Adding just a drop or two of paint thinner will help the paint come off the brush too. Maybe even liquid clear would work.

You shouldn’t have much trouble with this one if you give it a shot. I would watch the episode once or twice and really pay attention to Bob’s words and actions. If you try this one, let me know how it turned out.
