Freedom Beach. Painting #74

Freedom Beach. Painting #74

Freedom Beach
Date Painted: July 6, 2019
Size: 16 x 20 Canvas

Freedom Beach is painting #74. I streamed it live on Twitch where I paint most of my art these days. This painting takes you to a beach where you are watching some Independence Day fireworks over the water at night. It is mostly calm seas so you see the reflections on the surface of the water.

This is an original painting. I wanted to do a 4th of July themed painting since the 4th was a couple days prior. There was no Bob Ross episode followed. However, I did some techniques I learned from him. Mainly the black canvas technique.

Equipment

There really isn’t much to this particular painting. I’m pleasantly surprised with how it came out. I was having a bit of trouble with the fireworks at first but I was able to save them.

This type of scene is pretty simple to do overall. You start like any black canvas painting. Cover with a very thin coat of liquid clear then put on any transparent under color you wish. Some transparent colors are Crimson, Phthalo Blue and Green, Sap Green, Indian Yellow, Black and VD Brown. With your base color on there, use Titanium white or liquid white to bring out the color. For the exploding fire works, I used liquid white and the liner brush. You would use T. White for the water ripples and the waves as well. Then lightly blend them out to any level you want.

Any other questions about this technique or painting? What do you think. I’m really behind with the videos so I’ll update when I make the time lapse video. In the meantime, you can purchase this painting, if you so desire, in my Etsy Shop.

Happy painting!
