Hockey on a Winter Night. Painting #34. Add a Little Something to your Bob Ross Painting.
Hockey on a Winter Night
Date Painted: December 6, 2017
Size: 16 x 20 canvas
Ever since I discovered my new found painting talent and shared it with my friends and family, people had been asking me about adding little extra things such as wildlife. That I tried and need a little more practice but more often than not I just forget to add those little extra elements.
One of the other extra elements I get asked about are hockey players, especially when I paint winter scenes with water. You may ask why I would get asked about painting hockey players in a picture. Well, I am a hockey player as well as an artist. And by hockey player, I mean I am a career beer league hockey player. In my 15 years spent living overseas in Europe, I played a lot of hockey and made a lot of hockey friends. So when my hockey friends see my paintings, they often ask “Where are the hockey players?” My specialty is landscapes at the moment. I may branch out and try other things but until I learn and get better at those things, I will stick to what I know how to do.
However, when I finished this painting, I felt it definitely needed some hockey players. This picture reminded me of the times when I would go on a winter retreat with my youth group to New Hampshire. The retreat was at the base of a mountain and there was a pond that was always frozen. At night, under the lights, we would play some pond hockey with just sticks and pucks and everyone wore a winter bobble hat. Because this painting reminded me of that when I was finished, I decided to attept to put in a couple of hockey players.

I started out following a Bob Ross episode but about half way through I decided to finish it on my own. The inspiration was Season 1, Episode 6, Winter Moon.
I like the little hockey players playing a game of pond hockey. Just like I used to do when I was a kid. This painting was a gift to my dad for Christmas. It looks great hanging up in his living room above the fire place.
